Family Health,Wellness, And Fitness

Family health, wellness, and fitness play a huge part in every believer's life from your children up to the senior crowd who may be living in your home. Consider all your  family's needs within these areas.

Most times our days are filled with busyness: busy with family, school, church, social events and activities galore. Much of our time is spent somewhere within all these activities and events that we just don't have time for taking care of our physical, emotional, nutritional, wellness, mental, or even spiritual needs (in many cases). That is truly sad because, as we can visually see everyday, our bodies will eventually break down; some do sooner than others, depending on our own body types and particular levels of health.

The question is: Do you or the members of your family consider these issues and subjects of interest to be important to you? And, if so, what is stopping you or those members of your dear family? Sometimes we just don't think about them, unless, a doctor or health practitioner diagnoses us with a particular disease, condition, or syndrome. It may be that only then we are forced to look upon our lives, our own bodies and/or mental state, and determine if or how we may need to change them.

family health as it applies to wellness and fitness

Indeed, each member of your family contributes to the happiness and well-being of the entire family unit within your house and home. A big part is played by the health, wellness, and fitness levels of each one.

You know as well as I know that when you're sick, or someone in your home is sick, it generally spreads around, doesn't it. Within a week's time, what you or your child may have in terms of a virus, flu, cold, or infection, can affect one person to the other by the following week. The general health, wellness, and/or fitness level of an individual might play a role in how he/she will heal or get well from that particular sickness or malady.

Also, if you or another family member have great health, wellness, and fitness, it is obvious that the rest of the family members are pleasantly affected by your feeling good, by your good attitude and pleasing disposition which derives from experiencing great health, optimal wellness, and fitness alike.

According to Merrium-Webster.com (online dictionary), they define the term "wellness" as the "quality or state of being in good health, especially as an actively sought goal, or lifestyles that promote wellness." Well this is what we will be looking at and reviewing in the pursuit of actively seeking to improve our Christian lives through being healthy, being well, and being physically and mentally-fit.

For the term "fitness", Merrium-Webster.com (online dictionary) define it in two ways which will be applicable to our particular study, and that is: " (1) the quality or state of being fit; and (2) the capacity of an organism to survive and transmit its genotype to reproductive offspring as compared to competing organisms."

In essence, your health, wellness, and fitness levels; although uniquely divided into separate entities within your body, soul, mental, and spiritual capacities; truly run and flow together in beautiful accord with one another.

family health, wellness, and fitness issues/concerns within your home

Here are some of the various family health, wellness, and fitness issues/concerns which you or the members of your family unit may be experiencing or of which you may want to further investigate:

Kids Health: (Ages:0-12) The concern of parents is that we want our children to always remain healthy, feeling well, and being physically fit throughout all their activities, whether it be at home, in school, at church, or at play. Healthy lifestyles of our children is vitally important.

Women's Health: The health, well-being, and fitness of the women in the home can affect all her daily activities, thoughts, emotions, and perceptions of how she views her role in life within her home. Many times she is concerned of reproductive issues, her body image, and how her husband/boyfriend, and children view her, or how the other women in her community see her. She becomes plagued with not only her own physical, wellness, and fitness concerns, but also those of her children, husband, pets, and aging parents. Indeed, women many hats, but feel responsible for all those hats as well as for wearing the hat of providing good family health to her household.

Senior Health: Many of us have our parents (the grandparents) living with us, and are caring for them in our homes. Oftentimes, they become ill with various diseases, conditions, or syndromes that must be addressed. Their older physical bodies can become fragile and need specialized attention through continual medical care, as well as through physical fitness, good health and wellness programs. Family health includes everyone here!

Adolescent (Teen) Health:(Ages:13-18) Our teens have so many different types of concerns and issues to deal with this day in time; those of which can affect their overall health and happiness in the home, school, church, at work (if they have jobs) They have various kinds of stresses within all these areas of their lives and need to be addressed as well.

Men's Health: The health, wellness, and fitness of men in the home is also vital in the perception and reality of their personal stamina, endurance, and bodily performance at work, church, or home. Men need to know that they can keep up with all the various activities that require them to go out into the workforce, make a living for their families, and which will aid them in building a sustainable life and home for them. Furthermore, since he is the head of his household, he is ultimately responsible for the family health, wellness, and fitness of his kids, spouse, and anyone else who is living there.

Pet Health: I am including the pets here because they too have a huge part within family health, wellness, and fitness. They are part of the family unit and need to be well-cared for. When they become sick or depressed, their owners do as well ( or visa versa). So it is so important to make sure they too are in good health.

spiritual implications of family health, wellness, and fitness

As a believer and follower of Christ, you realize that you are made up of three elements: your physical body, your soul (mind), and your spirit. It is the responsibility of the believer to keep a watchful eye and continual check on each of these components of life.

When Jesus saved you He saved ALL of you; and as you house your spirit which has been renewed and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, through your own physical body, God expects you and I to treat it accordingly.

Family health, wellness, and fitness embodies all of these aspects of Christian living. We cannot think that others should be made responsible for taking care of our physical needs (unless we are very small children or disabled in some way). We are only accountable for ourselves; but accountable to God. If we are not responsible, it may bring on various difficult home issues within our family as well.

Yes, we are indeed responsible for all areas of our lives, and we will all be judged at the end of our lives for everything we do, say, think, or act upon. As you and I consider this truth, we cannot just allow our faculties to take in all the garbage of which our perverted society throws at us; including what foods/drink we consume, things we put into our thoughts and minds (all the media, books, magazines, information from the internet, etc.), places we go where we shouldn't (bars, clubs, parties that may have drugs or alcohol around), etc. We are shown in God's Word what is right and wrong; sinful or not. Here are a few passages of scripture that discuss these things:

  • Galatians 6:5 says, "For every man shall bear his own burden."
  • 2 Corinthians 5:10 reminds us, "For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."
  • 1 Timothy 5:8 says, "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."
  • Luke 10:27 says, "And He answering said, 'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.'"
  • Colossians 3:23 tells us, "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord; and not unto men."
  • Romans 14:12 warns, "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."
  • Matthew 12:36-37 also warns, "But I say unto you, 'That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." And lastly,
  • Hebrews 4:13 says, "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do."

Basically, what does all this mean for us? For you, and me? Well, it is the gift of life that we have in Jesus, and as believers in Him we are responsible for our own health, family health, wellness, fitness, and happiness.

How are we to bring the gospel to others; to witness for Him, if we are not physically and mentally able to do so? Of course, there are instances where we may be sick or ill from time to time, and just going through the experience itself, and experiencing God's mercy and grace as we go through it is also part of our faith, trust, and testimony in Him.

So, obtaining good family health, wellness, and physical fitness aids us in learning about, growing and developing, and sustaining us to be valuable and able-bodied witnesses and servants for our Saviour and Lord Jesus. In essence, you are honoring Him by taking care of your outer and inner temple He has given you. I encourage you to continually strive to obtain good family health, wellness, and physical fitness within your family unit, and you will enjoy the enduring benefits it will bring along life's journey as well. Good health to you and yours!
